How to Customize Your Lead Form

Customizing the collect leads widget.

Written by Brittany Morris

Whether you have a NiceJob website, installed the widget on your existing website, or want to edit the lead form on your microsite, NiceJob offers extensive customization options to capture the exact information your business needs.

Step 1: Choose Your Field Type 📌

Decide what kind of response you want to collect from your potential leads:

  • LONGTEXT: Gives your leads extra room to type out detailed descriptions, notes, or specific project requirements.

  • SHORTTEXT: Best for brief, one-line answers like a date, single word, or simple detail.

  • SELECTOR: Creates a convenient drop-down menu populated with options you specify.

  • CHECKBOX: Adds a single box for leads to check off—ideal for confirmation statements or opt-ins.

  • FOOTER_TEXT: Displays a line of text at the very bottom of the form. Use this to link to your Privacy Policy or Terms & Conditions to remain transparent and comply with data privacy regulations.

Step 2: Write Your Label 💬

Create a clear prompt or question so your leads know exactly what information to share.

Label Examples:

  • "Tell us your job requirements"

  • "Which neighborhood are you in?"

  • "Is this urgent?"

  • "How many rooms do you need cleaned?"

Step 3: Set Required Status 🔒

Determine whether completing the field is mandatory for submitting the form by setting required to "Yes" or "No".

Custom Field Templates 📋

Here are example templates you can copy and edit:

  • Long text input: { type: 'LONGTEXT', label: 'Tell us your job requirements', required: 'Yes' }

  • Short text input: { type: 'SHORTTEXT', label: 'When do you need the work done?', required: 'Yes' }

  • Dropdown selector: { type: 'SELECTOR', label: 'Which neighbourhood are you in?', options: ['Southtown', 'Northtown', 'Easttown', 'Westtown'], required: 'Yes' }

  • Checkbox: { type: 'CHECKBOX', label: 'Is this an urgent matter?' }

  • Footer text: { type: 'FOOTER_TEXT', label: 'By submitting this form, you agree to our <PRIVACY_URL>[https://example.com/privacy](https://example.com/privacy)</PRIVACY_URL> and <TERM_URL>[https://example.com/terms](https://example.com/terms)</TERM_URL.> You can opt out at any time by updating your preferences.' }

💡 Pro Tip: To quickly update fields, copy and paste an example template into the Custom Fields editor in your dashboard and modify the label text.

When you are happy with the edits hit save and test out your new form. 🎊

How to Use an External Booking or Scheduling Link 🔗

Prefer using a third-party custom booking tool or scheduling software (like Calendly) to capture leads instead of the built-in NiceJob form? You can easily direct website visitors to an external URL.

  1. Navigate to Settings: Go to Settings > Product Settings > Widgets > Collect Leads in your NiceJob dashboard. ⚙️

  2. Copy Your Link: Grab the URL you want visitors to open (for example, your personal calendar booking link). 📅

  3. Paste & Save: Paste your URL into the Custom Link field and click Save. 💾

You're All Set! Whenever a visitor clicks your lead button, your custom booking page or calendar will open instantly. 🎉

💡 Want to use the built-in NiceJob pop-up form instead? Simply leave this field blank
