How do I add a widget to my website?

Displaying customer reviews and social proof on your website helps build trust and boost conversions! Follow these simple step-by-step methods to get your NiceJob widget up and running using standard HTML or WordPress.

Written by Brittany Morris

Social proof is one of the most powerful tools for converting website visitors into paying customers. NiceJob review widgets let you display real-time reviews and ratings from your connected review sites, and direct customer submissions directly on your site. By showcasing authentic feedback right where prospects make their decisions, you build instant trust and credibility.

Method 1: Installing via HTML Code 💻

Use this option if you have direct access to your site’s code or use a custom website builder (such as Wix, GoDaddy, Squarespace, Ect).

📋 What You Need

  • Access Level: Basic permissions to edit your website

  • 💡 Working with a developer? Simply copy the code snippet below and email it directly to them!

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Get Your Widget Code:

    • Log in to your NiceJob dashboard.

    • Go to Settings > Product Settings > Widgets.

    • Choose the widget you’d like to install and select your preferred display options (for example, choosing between a grid or single column layout for the Stories widget).

    • Copy the provided code snippet.

2. Paste Code into Your Page:

  • Open your website editor for the page where you want the widget to show up. Or the HTML source code or builder element for the page where you want the widget to display.

  • Paste the snippet directly into the spot where you want it to appear.

  • Save and Publish the chages.

Adding a widget using WordPress

  1. Option A: Using the Official NiceJob WordPress Plugin 🧩

    1. Install and Activate:

      • In your WordPress sidebar, go to Plugins > Add New.

      • Search for NiceJob (or grab it from the WordPress Plugin Directory).

      • Click Install Now, then hit Activate. A new NiceJob menu will appear in your left sidebar.

    2. Connect Your Account:

      • In a new tab, open NiceJob and go to Settings > Company > Profile to copy your Company ID.

      • Head back to the NiceJob menu in WordPress and paste your Company ID into the designated field.

      • Click Save—this automatically configures your widgets!

    3. Add the Widget to Your Page:

      • Using Classic Editor: Open your page editor in Classic mode. Click the NiceJob icon in the toolbar to insert your chosen widget.

      • Using Page Builders (Elementor, Divi, Block Editor): Add a Text, Shortcode or Custom HTML block to your page. Copy the shortcode from your NiceJob plugin settings and paste it right into the block.

        • "Text" tends to work best for NiceJob short code.

Note on WordPress Editors: Because WordPress offers many different editing environments (Gutenberg Block Editor, Classic Editor, Elementor, Divi, site themes, etc.), placing shortcodes and Widgets can vary slightly. For extra help navigating your specific editor, check out the WordPress Help Center. 📖

💡 Tips:

  1. Looking to build a dedicated "Reviews" or "Testimonials" page? The Stories Widget is specifically designed for this! It auto-populates directly from your NiceJob dashboard so visitors can easily browse through all your customer reviews in one place.

  2. If someone else manages your website, just copy the widget code and send it to them.

  3. Most widgets can be simply added wherever you'd like them to occur. A few, like the Collect Reviews widget also need some Java Script added before the actual widget link. This can be placed anywhere in the HTML as long as it's before the widget link. Ideally, you want to place this at the bottom of the <head> section of your website.

FAQ

Do you have more resources on the different widget options and how to install them?

Yes we do. 🙏

What should I do if my widget is installed but not showing up?

Check your website caching.

NiceJob review widgets do not work well with caching plugins (which are common on WordPress sites). These plugins save a frozen snapshot of your page, which stops live widgets from dynamically loading.

  • Solution: Turn off or clear your caching plugin—or exclude the specific page hosting the widget from caching—to allow your NiceJob review widget to load properly.

Will the NiceJob review widget slow down my website?

No, not at all.

NiceJob review widgets are fast and lightweight. They load asynchronously in the background, so they won't slow down the rest of your page. They are fully responsive and work seamlessly across mobile devices and major website builders.

Do NiceJob review widgets help with Google rankings (SEO)?

Yes.

NiceJob review widgets automatically add fresh, user-generated content to your site. This signals to Google that your business is active and relevant, which can positively impact your search rankings.

Pro Tip: Take your SEO a step further by adding service tags and location details to each story in your NiceJob dashboard!

Which review platforms will the NiceJob review widget show?

The widget displays reviews from any review site connected to your NiceJob account (such as Google or Facebook)

Can I limit the reviews on the Stories widget?

The intended purpose of the stories widget is to go on a dedicated 'Reviews' or 'Testimonials' page on the site. It auto-populates from your NiceJob dashboard and allows visitors to browse through the different reviews left by customers. At this time, there is not an ideal way to limit how many stories appear at a time.

The Carousel is a great widget to instal inf you only want to showcase a few reviews.
